Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat set to leave Fiorentina 'soon' as manager makes admission
Morocco boss Walid Regragui has said that midfielder Sofyan Amrabat will complete a transfer 'soon' amid links to Manchester United.
The 24-year-old midfielder starred during the recent World Cup in Qatar, being named in the Team of the Tournament by FIFA.
He was subsequently linked with a move to Liverpool, and Foot Mercato claimed that manager Jurgen Klopp spoke with the player's representatives to convince Amrabat to commit to the Reds.
It is claimed he decided on a move to Atletico Madrid, but that has not yet happened.
Speaking earlier this year, the player's brother, former Watford forward Nordin Amrabat, told Voetbal Primeur (via Manchester Evening News): "I can name three clubs who were concrete in the last two or three days of the transfer window.
"Manchester United wanted a loan with an option to buy deal, Fiorentina rejected."
Erik ten Hag completed a loan move for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on transfer deadline day in January. But various sources have claimed that United will not be turning that deal into a permanent one, meaning they are on the lookout for a new midfielder.
They have already launched a £40 million bid for Chelsea's Mason Mount, but the Blues want £75 million to sell the England star.
One other option could be Amrabat, who is said to have been a 'long-standing target' by the MEN - and Morocco's manager has said a move to another club is close.
Amrabat move 'close'
The midfielder played in Fiorentina's 2-1 Europa Conference League final defeat to West Ham last Wednesday.
Subsequently, he received a call-up to the Morocco national squad for their upcoming fixtures this month - but Regragui has confirmed that Amrabat will play no part.
He said (as per Calciomercato): "I have decided to let him go, he will not play.
"He has played so many games this year, I don't want to risk him, especially as he will soon sign with a new club."
Earlier this month, Amrabat stated that it would be 'nice to play in the Premier League' - and United could potentially seal a move for him if they can fend off interest from Atletico and Barcelona.
