Manchester City Confirm £25m Signing of Mateo Kovacic
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic from on a four-year deal. The Croatian midfielder has joined the Premier League champions for a fee of £25m plus £5m in add-ons.
Having won the Champions League four times in his career, Kovacic joins the Citizens after four seasons at Chelsea with the Blues attempting to trim their bloated squad ahead of Mauricio Pochettino first season.
The Croatian Midfielder racked up a total of 140 appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals.
The 29-year-old is a versatile midfielder who can play in a variety of positions. He is known for his passing ability, dribbling skills, and defensive work rate.
Kovacic said upon his signing: “This is a brilliant move for me, and I cannot wait to get started with City.
“Anyone who has watched this team under Pep knows how good they are – for me, they are the best in the world. The trophies they have won are clear for all to see, but they are also the best footballing side out there."
Kovacic's arrival will boost City's midfield options with the departure of German midfielder Gundagan to Barcelona.
The club already have a number of talented midfielders, including Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Kalvin Philips, However, Kovacic's addition will give City more depth and quality in the middle of the park becoming City's first signing of the summer.
City are looking to build on their success of last season, when they won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UCL. With the addition of Kovacic City will be looking to replicate same success next season.
