Man City fans forced to 'urinate and vomit on buses' in UCL travel chaos
Manchester City fans were forced to 'urinate and vomit' on coaches heading to the Champions League final as travel chaos caused the motorway to be gridlocked outside the Ataturk Olympic Stadium
Manchester City fans were forced to 'urinate and vomit' on coaches with travel chaos overshadowing the Champions League final on Saturday evening.
Supporters found themselves trapped on buses that had no access to toilets or water as traffic came to a standstill outside of the Ataturk Olympic Stadium. Journalist and presenter Nick Stapleton attended the final with his 77-year-old father, veteran TV presenter John Stapleton.
And Nick told The Telegraph about the ordeal: "My dad has been attending City matches since 1954 but by the time we got to the stadium on Saturday night he said that this would be his last game.
"The car parks were gravel and we saw people in wheelchairs either having to be dragged in their chairs across the surface, or taken out and carried."
However, the pair saw fans, who were in gridlock traffic on the motorway, forced to urinate out of bus windows - with others vomiting. They did note one bus driver had managed to pull over to allow fans to relieve themselves.
Fans weren't the only ones suffering from problems with the traffic, and players' families slammed the experience. Journalist Miguel Delaney revealed one of the relatives had told him: "Families walked down the sides of motorways to find cabs.
"Our exit from the stadium was dangerous. Everyone filtering through one small exit. Then crumbling steps into the car park. No way this stadium should be hosting a Champions League final!"
The stadium itself is 17km away from the centre of Istanbul - where many City fans had started their journey. However, standstill traffic meant the trip took in excess of two hours.
Some City fans had attempted to use the metro, but were turned back with UEFA citing it was for use of Inter Milan fans only.
