Laura Woods quits talkSPORT - and fans 'know' her new role
Popular presenter Laura Woods will host her final talkSPORT breakfast show later this month after confirming that she will leave the programme in a statement on Wednesday
Laura Woods has confirmed that she is leaving her role as host of the talkSPORT breakfast show.
Woods has hosted the show for the past three seasons, entertaining fans in her exchanges with Ally McCoist, Jamie O'Hara, Gabby Agbonlahor and ordinary football supporters. It was confirmed on Wednesday morning that the popular presenter would be leaving the flagship programme later this month, leading to a huge outpouring of messages from her loyal listeners.
In a statement, Woods said: "You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it. "So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.
"For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport. There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique.
"Three years as the host of this amazing breakfast show, three bits of silverware for the trophy cabinet and record listening figures. I’m very proud of what we achieved here. One thing’s for sure: I will always be part of this family at talkSPORT."
One wrote: "Noooooooo. To be fair, I did see this coming with her announcements of more prominent TV presenting roles. Best of luck @laura_woodsy!"
Someone else said: "Hopefully she will be the host of the champions league and maybe premier league on TNT. They need a complete new set of hosts and pundits there, I don’t think there’s one good one.'
Woods' decision comes following speculation linking her to TNT Sport, which is the new name for BT Sport as of next season. The ex-Sky Sports host has been touted for a role with the broadcaster, with fans picking up on the timing of the news.
Before a third added: "Wow, massive loss Laura Woods is Box Office. Good luck for the future girl." While another user said: "Replacing Jake Humphries on BT Sport is a big win."
Woods also works for DAZN, presenting the channel's boxing coverage. All eyes will now be on her next move following the news of her departure from the talkSPORT breakfast show.
