Laura Woods breaks down in tears after caller, 82, recites poem during final radio show

Laura Woods couldn't hold back her tears after an elderly caller recited an emotional poem during her final shift at talkSPORT.

Woods, who promised to take time out while she considers her next step, took to the airwaves for the final time as host of the breakfast show on Wednesday.

The exit, which comes three years after she stepped in to share the workload with Alan Brazil, was made emotional by 82-year-old caller Ivor.

His poem, which referenced Brazil, Ally McCoist, Ray Parlour and Gabby Agbonlahor, left Woods covering her face with her hands before wiping away tears.

Ivor began: "I don’t want to waste too much of your time on your final day, just a few words of appreciation and then one verse of rhyme, if that’s OK."

The poem read: "Mr Brazil is good, Ray Parlour not bad, super Ally is great, Gabby’s Jack the Lad.

"But one presenter shines above the rest, that’s Laura Woods who’s simply the best."

Woods said in response: "Ivor I have to admit you’ve broken me early, I’m already crying and it’s only 6:23."

Woods, a two time SJA sports presenter of the year, has been linked with the new look TNT Sports.

She said at the time of her announcement: "You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it.

"So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.

“For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport.

"There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique."
