Gary Neville reacts to Martin Tyler’s Sky Sports exit and remembers ‘painful’ moments

Gary Neville has paid tribute to Martin Tyler following the legendary commentator’s Sky Sports career coming to an end.

The ‘voice of the Premier League’ announced he would be leaving Sky Sports indefinitely after commentating on England’s top flight since its rebranding in 1992.

Tyler, 77, has witnessed all there is to see with the microphone in the Premier League, including Gary Neville’s rise to eight-time title winner at Manchester United and then sitting alongside him in the commentary box for the last ten years.

Neville, alongside others who shared reporting duties alongside Tyler, has reacted to the announcement via Instagram, posting a message to his 1.7million followers on the platform.

The United legend turned pundit posted: To work alongside Martin Tyler is a true privilege. He is the “voice” of the Premier League.

“Whilst he always made me feel welcome and he’s someone I trust as a friend and a teammate, I always felt he was a different level. A master of what he did.

“His partnership with Andy Gray was the soundtrack throughout my Premier League career and the best we’ve ever seen.

“The last 10 years working with Martin has flown by and has been a joy. His delivery comes through hard work, commitment to the job and preparation like I’ve never seen.

“You’ve delivered some of the greatest lines in commentary along the way although some of them have been painful for me personally.

“I hope we can work together again in the future at some point. Thank you, you’re the best!”

Neville has been present for a multitude of painful moments alongside Tyler in recent years watching his beloved United struggle. But one moment for sure sticks out as one of Tyler’s most famous and Neville’s most hated, with the “Agueroooooooo” cry a dagger to Neville and United fans alike in 2012.

Tyler is amongst an exodus of exits from Sky as the broadcasting giant enters a new era after iconic Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling retired from his post at the end of the season.
