Fans think Rodri should be in the running for the 2023 Ballon d'Or after stunning season

Fans think Rodri is in serious contention to win this year's Ballon d'Or following his remarkable season for club and country.

Rodri continued his sensational campaign by helping Spain win the Nations League on Sunday as they beat Croatia on penalties.

He was named the Nations League Player of the Tournament as he starred for La Roja, who claimed their first trophy since Euro 2012.

And, of course, the 26-year-old had a stellar season at Manchester City, winning a famous treble - with the player scoring the only goal of the game in the Champions League final.

He was also named Champions League Player of the Tournament for his performances in the competition, producing dominant displays against the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the knockout stages.

It begs the question; does Rodri deserve the 2023 Ballon d'Or? Well, fans online certainly think so as they backed him to win the prestigious individual award.

People on social media also referenced Jorginho, who came in third for the 2021 Ballon d'Or.

One Twitter user wrote: "If Jorginho made the top 3 of the Ballon d’Or in 2021, then Rodri deserves the same or better this season."

A second tweeted: "Rodri should finish top 3 for the Ballon dor. He needs that Jorginho treatment."

A third added: "What’s stopping Rodri from getting the Ballon d'Or?"

A fourth said: "Rodri best player itw give him Ballon d'Or."

Another commented: "Rodri deserves to be above Haaland on Ballon d'Or list with Messi winning it."

Rodri's club colleagues Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne will be in contention for the 2023 Ballon d'Or, while Lionel Messi looks to be the favourite to win the coveted award following his heroics at the 2022 World Cup.

But the defensive midfielder could also be in with a shout considering his phenomenal campaign for club and country.

Who should win the 2023 Ballon d'Or? Let us know.
