Thiago Silva to ask Chelsea to end contract early so he can return to Brazil
Thiago Silva could reportedly ask Chelsea to END his contract so he can complete a dream transfer this summer.
The Brazilian moved to Stamford Bridge in 2020 following a stellar and trophy-laden spell at Paris Saint-Germain.
He moved to the club on a free transfer and has been a revelation, starring at the back and has arguably been Chelsea's best performer this season.
The 38-year-old is contracted to the Blues until 2024, having signed a new one-year extension before Graham Potter's dismissal.
But according to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Silva is having second thoughts about staying on at Chelsea and would rather return to Brazil.
He's believed to have his eyes on a move to Fluminense, who have improved their run and recently snapped up former Real Madrid star Marcelo.
Silva and Marcelo are great pals and he's attracted to playing one final campaign alongside his old international colleague.
What's more, the legendary centre-back has been urged to sign for Fluminense by Marcelo, who has been privately messaging him about a move to Brazil.
Club president Mario Bittencourt and former striker Fred are also trying to persuade Silva to leave the Premier League.
Silva leaving at the end of the season will be a huge blow for Chelsea, with interim boss Frank Lampard hailing every aspect of the player in glowing praise.
"Thiago is a credit in all aspects," he said.
"He’s a classy, brilliant player. His career says it. He’s also brilliant at looking after himself to play at this level. He’s 38. I was in the MLS by that point. Especially as a centre-back, to play in the Premier League, what he must be doing with his body.
"He’s also got a great mind and he’s got a winning mentality, so he would have been suffering a bit recently because he feels it and he wears it and he’s a great reference point for the young centre-backs we’ve got in the team around him.
"I’ve got nothing but praise for Thiago in all aspects."
