Man City crowned PL champions after Arsenal lose to Forest

Manchester City's status as Premier League champions was confirmed on Saturday evening after Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game at the City Ground inside 19 minutes to hand Mikel Arteta's side a second straight defeat and end their hopes of a title.

The defeat leaves Arsenal four points off City with just one game left for them to play against Wolves on the final day of the season.

Arsenal have spent much of the season at the top, but three straight draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton allowed City to close the gap. Pep Guardiola's side then beat the Gunners 4-1 at the Etihad to put the title in their hands at the end of April.

City have been on a relentless run that has seen them take their place at the summit, opening up a four-point gap on their rivals last weekend after Brighton won 3-0 at the Emirates.

The Blues knew victory at home to Chelsea on Sunday would have guaranteed top spot regardless of Arsenal's result, but their defeat at Forest turns Sunday into a coronation.

City have now won the last three Premier League titles, representing a period of complete dominance. Guardiola's side have also won five of the last six.

Chelsea arrive at the Etihad on Sunday for City's final home game of the season before Guardiola's side face trips to Brighton and Brentford. Following that, the Blues have an FA Cup final against Manchester United and the Champions League final meeting with Inter Milan.
