Kai Havertz expresses surprise and disappointment over Thomas Tuchel's sacking amidst Chelsea's disappointing season
Kai Havertz reveals the Chelsea stars were stunned by Todd Boehly’s decision to sack Thomas Tuchel “out of nowhere” in September … leaving the struggling Blues “with their backs to the wall”.
Kai Havertz has revealed his surprise at Thomas Tuchel’s sacking earlier this season as he delivered a scathing verdict on their miserable campaign.
Tuchel, who now coaches Bayern Munich, was sacked by Chelsea after just seven games into the season when they sat sixth in the Premier League and got off to a poor start in their Champions League group.
The Blues have since sacked Graham Potter and Frank Lampard has succeeded Bruno Saltor as interim boss – but the Blues are now 12th in the standings and were eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Havertz, who has scored nine goals in 41 games this season, has revealed that Tuchel’s dismissal “came out of nowhere” and admitted it’s been a tough season.
“Everything that can go wrong went wrong for us this year,” Havertz told the German magazine “Kicker”.

He has also revealed his surprise at Thomas Tuchel’s sacking after just seven games into the season
“The season actually started relatively quietly. We had the chance to become owners which was a big change for the club.
“And then Thomas Tuchel was fired, of course that always makes a difference in a team like this when you have been successful with a coach and he is fired out of nowhere.”
Chelsea have gotten off to a bad start in life under club legend Lampard, with five straight defeats sitting 12th in the table and while relegation is not a problem they are just nine points clear of the bottom three.
Havertz added: “Now we have our backs to the wall and we’re not very good in the table.
“Of course it’s easy to find excuses. I’m not a fan of blaming everything on something else. At the end of the day. We are all professional footballers and sometimes we have to win a game.”
Chelsea travel to the Emirates tonight to take on Arsenal who are hoping to return to the top of the Premier League with a win.
Haverz, however, hopes to “tear” the Gunners in their quest to get back on track after last week’s costly 4-1 defeat by Man City.
He said: “We hope to tease Arsenal a little bit. They’re now in the title fight, which is where we want to be. And if you can beat your opponent, that’s always good for the fans.”

However, Havertz hopes Chelsea can return to form and hurt Arsenal’s title chances
Chelsea are desperate to reach the end of the season and focus on next season, with the Blues likely to hire Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager.
Chelsea co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly have spoken about their next appointment in California, while reports suggest Pochettino will be offered the job soon.
He’s been the front-runner since former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the running over concerns about the process after believing he was a shoo-in for the role.
