Chelsea Striker Aubameyang Touched the Ball Nine Times Against Arsenal
Chelsea’s dreadful night at Arsenal was summed up by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s dismal 45-minute run-out against his former club.
The forward, who represented the Gunners for four years, was a surprise starter for the Blues’ 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
But Chelsea were second best in every department as they went 3-0 down inside the opening 34 minutes.
Martin Odegaard put the Gunners in front on 18 minutes as he latched onto a cross from Granit Xhaka on the left before firing past Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The pair combined again just after the half hour mark as Xhaka was once again provider for Odegaard, who bagged his and Arsenal’s second with a neat first-time finish.
And moments after that it was 3-0 as Gabriel Jesus put the ball past Kepa from close range after some more woeful defending by the visitors.
Noni Madueke pulled one back for the away side in the second half but it was scant consolation on a terrible night for Chelsea.
It was a bad performance all round by Frank Lampard’s men but Aubameyang was especially anonymous, touching the ball just nine times in the first half – four of them from kick-offs.
Aubameyang was substituted at half time, replaced by Kai Havertz, to cap off a miserable return against his former club.
