Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds set to launch $1 billion bid for new team

According to reports, Ryan Reynolds, who is a co-owner of Wrexham, is currently seeking to purchase a second sports team to expand his portfolio.

After achieving promotion for the Welsh club back into the Football League, alongside co-owner Rob McElhenney in their second full season, Reynolds is said to be preparing a $1 billion bid for this new venture.

The Red Dragons secured the National League title last weekend after play-off heartbreak last term and Reynolds is now looking to make a second investment two years on from his £2 million purchase of Wrexham alongside McElhenney.

Going away from football, according to the Ottawa Sun, the Deadpool star has reportedly targeted a takeover of National Hockey League side the Ottawa Senators who have been owned by the Melnyk family since 2003 with an offer of $1 billion (£795 million).

The Senators, based in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, are up for sale following the death of family head Eugene Melnyk with prospective bidders having until 15 May to make an offer.

Reynolds is believed to be fronting the offer alongside Canadian real estate development company, the Remington Group and, should the Canadian's offer be accepted, the deal would become the most expensive takeover in NHL history, smashing the $900million (£716.5million) acquisition of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2021.

Similarly to Wrexham, the actor would look to do a docu-series whilst also build the team a new stadium who haven't appeared in the play-off finals since 2007 when losing to the Anaheim Ducks.

The news comes just days after Wrexham confirmed their promotion to League Two after a 15-year hiatus from the Football League with a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood and Reynolds is now seeking more success in sports back in his home country.
