Fernandes – 7, McTominay – 3: rating Man United players in Newcastle loss

Antony – 7

The Brazilian winger caused nightmares for Dan Burn with his movement and trickery. He went past him to create some big chances, but unfortunately, nobody could capitalize on them. Frustrated after being taken off around the hour-mark following an encouraging performance.

Bruno Fernandes - 7

Bruno played in a midfield pivot, but at least showed desire to move his side forward and set up chances. He created a few major chances with his brilliant delivery and progressed play pretty well. Worked hard to win key duels and tried his best to no avail.

Marcel Sabitzer – 6.5

Sabitzer wasn’t helped by being hounded by multiple Newcastle midfielders, but did well to hold his own. He moved the ball forward well and had a shot attempt go wide in the second half. Sabitzer made five possession recoveries and won 6/9 ground duels in a respectable outing.

Diogo Dalot – 4

Afer being bullied by Saint-Maximin in the Carabao Cup fnal, the same thing happened with Dalot at St. James Park. The Frenchman eased past him on the left flank and created a massive six chances! Left in no man’s land for the opener, defensively shaky and ineffective going forward too.

Scott McTominay – 3

McTominay weirdly started in a no.10 role and was a complete misfit, always passing sideways or backwards and having zero creative threat. He couldn’t provide a goal-scoring threat either and gave away possession quite a few times. Allowed United’s midfield to be overrun and looked uneasy against the Magpies.

Wout Weghorst – 3

Weghorst completed four passes in 62 minutes. He had one shooting chance that went horribly wide. Played like a passenger in the attack and looks a complete misfit in this team.

The Others

De Gea – 6.5, Varane – 6, Martinez – 6, Shaw – 4.5, Rashford – 4.5

Subs

Martial – 6.5, Sancho – 4, Lindelof – 5, Fred – N/R, Pellistri – N/R
