Tottenham suffered a complete collapse in the opening 25 minutes at St James’ Park, with Newcastle taking a 5-0 lead over a lacklustre Spurs side.
Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League table and are six points adrift of fourth-place Manchester United and third-place Newcastle with six matches left.
However, United have two matches in hand over Tottenham and Newcastle have a match in hand over Spurs in the race for Champions League football next season.
Kane, who scored in the 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, is out of contract in 2024 and has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old Spurs star is considered to be a top target for United, with Erik ten Hag believed to have a striker as his No 1 priority in the summer transfer window.
Fans on social media suggested that a move to Old Trafford seems more likely for Kane if Tottenham fail to secure Champions League football.
One fan said: “Manchester United should send officials during this half-time break to negotiate Harry Kane’s summer transfer. He will sign obviously.”
Another tweeted: “The only thing Harry Kane will do this afternoon is use the half-time break to text his agent to see how much United will give him next season!”
A third asked: “Are we sure Harry Kane will want to stay at Spurs next season without Champions League football? If United comes calling, he might leave.”
While another commented: “Welcome to Manchester United... Harry Kane!”
Someone else wrote: “Harry Kane needs to leave ASAP and to what club? Has to be United for me [I] think he would suit them down to the ground.”
And a sixth posted: “Now is the perfect to move on Harry Kane, you’re always welcome at United. Time is now.”
