Erik ten Hag faces backlash from fans for controversial Jose Mourinho comment in his biography
Erik ten Hag has been subjected to ridicule by fans for a remark he made in the biography of the former Manchester United manager.
Ten Hag had a challenging beginning as the manager of United as they were defeated in their initial two Premier League games against Brighton and Brentford.
Notwithstanding this, the Dutch manager is gradually but certainly improving the performance of the United team.
Under Ten Hag's leadership, the Red Devils secured their first trophy by defeating Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
If the former Ajax manager manages to secure a top-four finish, it will undoubtedly conclude a satisfactory first season for him.
Nevertheless, supporters have noticed a remark made by Ten Hag about Jose Mourinho in his biography.
According to The Athletic, the Dutchman wrote about the tactics of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
Ten Hag employed a chess analogy to clarify why numerous coaches aspire to adopt Guardiola's tactics.
He wrote: “When it comes to tactics, we don’t talk about Jose Mourinho, who always plays with black.”
Fans were quick to react to Ten Hag’s words.
One said: “Think Ten Hag and United fans need to be honest about the football we’ve played for quite a bit of this season.”
Another tweeted: “We have the lowest line in the league?”
A third fan added: “Crazy cos you know he’s something of a Mourinho-like coach himself now.”
Someone else wrote: “Is this guy serious? We legit have the lowest backline in the league hahaha.”
Whilst a fifth commented: “Mourinho's football with all the players available that he liked was better than Ten Hag's football with all his players available. Mourinho with injuries of important players to his squad won the UEL, ten Hag on the other hand…”
Ten Hag will now be focused on securing Champions League football for next season, United are currently fourth in the Premier League table, five points ahead of fifth-placed Aston Villa.
United will also have a FA Cup final against Manchester City to look forward to as Ten Hag looks to win his second trophy of the season.
