Barca to turn old La Masia building into Lionel Messi museum
As part of the renovation works around Camp Nou, Barcelona plan to turn the old La Masia residence into a museum dedicated exclusively to Lionel Messi, Diario AS say.
This is the building in question.
The building is rather old, dating back to 1702, but the club cannot demolish it or even significantly change its appearance as it has been declared a part of Catalonia's architectural heritage. The club acquired it in 1950.
Instead, Blaugrana plan to make several changes to the interior and transform it into a high-tech immersive museum dedicated to its greatest player.
The museum will not only attract a lot of fans and thus bring in revenue but also serve as a gesture of appreciation to Messi. Both aspects are especially important now when Barca are trying to bring Leo back to the club.
Previously, the Catalans planned to use the building as a place for official meetings and dinners. However, turning the La Masia residence into a museum for its greatest product does seem like a better use of the building.
