Arsenal and Manchester United set for high-profile pre-season showdown in New York City
A pre-season friendly has been scheduled in New York between Arsenal and Manchester United prior to the commencement of the 2023-24 season.
On July 22, at MetLife Stadium, the two Premier League clubs have confirmed their encounter.
This match will mark the inaugural meeting of the two clubs in the United States.
Following their game against an MLS All-Stars team at Audi Field in Washington DC on July 1, Arsenal will play their second match of the pre-season tour in the US against Manchester United.
On July 25, Manchester United will take on newly-promoted League Two team Wrexham in a friendly match at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
After that, Erik ten Hag's team will face Borussia Dortmund in a match scheduled to take place on July 30 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
"The plans for pre-season are making good progress, with the match against Manchester United in New York being another important part of our preparations," Arsenal's sporting director Edu told the club's website.
"Playing against strong opposition in a great stadium in front of so many of our supporters in New York will provide Mikel [Arteta] and the squad with a strong test and great experience ahead of the new season.
"We've now announced two matches in the US in July and look forward to announcing further details of our pre-season soon."
Manchester United's football director of John Murtough added: "Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is.
"It's great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.
"I know Erik and the squad are looking forward to starting their pre-season preparations in New York and utilising the great sporting facilities available to us in the city.
"The last time United played in New York was in 2011, so we are excited to be returning after such a long wait. There is no better location to kick start the club’s Tour 2023."
