'Things always go well against Messi. Ronaldo was our problem': Thomas Muller makes huge Lionel Messi claim

On Wednesday, Thomas Muller played a crucial role in Bayern Munich eliminating Lionel Messi and PSG from the Champions League round of 16. After the game, the German forward admitted that Messi usually doesn't pose too much of a challenge for the Bavarians.

"Against Messi, things always go well at all levels in terms of results. At club level, Cristiano Ronaldo was our problem when he was at Real Madrid," Goal quote Muller.

"But I have the greatest respect for Messi's World Cup performance. Messi’s individual performance at the World Cup was amazing. He carried the whole squad. It’s not so easy to play at a team like PSG. It’s difficult to get a really good team balance."

Cristiano Ronaldo does have a solid record against Bayern -- 9 goals and one assist in 8 games. However, let's not forget that in the VAR era, some of those goals would've been cancelled.

As for Messi's performances against Bayern, Muller should ask his ex-teammate Jerome Boateng what Leo is capable of. The Bavarians are just lucky to have encountered Messi during some of the rough patches like Leo's injury in 2013 or Quique Setien's Barcelona/the current PSG.

When Messi had a functioning team behind him and was in optimal conditions, he didn't have problems breezing past the Bavarian defenders. After all, he has 4 goals and 2 assists in his 8 matches against Bayern.
