'The guy is unbelievable': Dimitar Berbatov names striker Man United should sign this summer

Former striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged Manchester United to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Nigerian international, 24, has been in scintillating form for the Serie A table-toppers this season, scoring 25 goals in all competitions. He has been central to their quest to end their 33-year wait for a league title and has helped them reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the very first time in their history.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli from French side Lille in July 2020, is widely considered as one of the most exciting and promising strikers in European football. United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News in November, have identified the athletic forward as a firm target and are running the rule over him ahead of the summer.

The Reds plan to recruit an elite-level striker ahead of next season and that particular task is set to be their primary objective during the summer. And for former goal-getter Berbatov, who plundered 56 goals in 149 games for United, Osimhen is the man they should be turning to.

Asked to name any striker that United could add to their ranks this summer, Berbatov, speaking to Betfred, said: "Victor Osimhen. The guy is unbelievable at the moment.

"He's very young, he's great in the air, his speed is exceptional and the goals he's scoring for Napoli are unbelievable. If they do go for a striker in the summer, then they should go for him over everybody else."

Despite the Nigerian's exploits this season, United manager Erik ten Hag, as reported by the Manchester Evening News earlier this month, has pinpointed Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane as his preferred target. The England captain is out-of-contract at Spurs in June 2024, meaning the Londoners could be prepared to sell him this summer, ahead of running the risk of losing him for free 12 months later.
