Potter explains why he didn't watch Havertz's penalty goal against Dortmund

Graham Potter couldn't bear to watch Kai Havertz's penalty retake in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Dortmund last night. He said after the match that he looked away when Havertz took the penalty.

“After the first one, I stood up and watched it and I thought, ‘No – I’ll sit down and listen to the crowd now,” Potter told BT Sport after the game.

“Thankfully, the noise was there.”

“It was him or Reece [James]. Sometimes they’ve got to feel it on the pitch,” Potter explained when asked if he had thought of changing the taker for the retaking of the penalty.

“We’ve got confidence in Kai. It happens that you miss one.

“Even though I wasn’t watching, I was delighted when I heard the roar.

“Taking penalties is not for me, so I am in awe of anybody who can. Taking it in that situation was fantastic.”
