Marcus Rashford breaks silence with defiant message after Man United lose 7-0 to Liverpool
Marcus Rashford has broken his silence on Manchester United's humiliating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Rashford started up front at Anfield, but failed to influence the game as his side were smashed 7-0 by a rampant Liverpool.
Man United went into the break one-nil down as they imploded in the second-half, conceding a whopping six goals, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all getting on the score-sheet.
The bruising defeat will have Erik ten Hag asking questions about his team, with Rashford speaking out on the defeat on social media.
He tweeted: "I wish we could play a game today to try and put things right. The result is the result, and we can’t see past that! We must not let it define our season. We have to trust the process and stick together."
Rashford has been in sensational form since the 2022 World Cup last year. He has 14 Premier League goals to his name this season, but was unable to add to his tally against Jurgen Klopp's team.
He's not Man United player to respond to the crushing loss as David De Gea took to social media following the result.
"I know these message[s] don't sit well on such a day," he wrote.
"This was a disastrous moment for us and these results shouldn't happen, especially with the journey we are all on.
"We have a duty to this club, a responsibility to represent the badge but we have many opportunities to look ahead, many games coming fast and we have to lock our focus on these."
And speaking after the game, Luke Shaw apologised while admitting 'standards' have dropped since the Carabao Cup triumph.
"Out there on the pitch, I felt embarrassed for us players, for the fans who were supporting us and who were watching at home," he told Sky Sports.
"To watch that second half... I can only apologise for that. Us, as players, have to own it, we have to stand up and accept that it was nowhere near good enough.
"It was completely unacceptable. Our standards have clearly dropped since we won that trophy [the Carabao Cup seven days earlier] and, in the last couple of games, we haven't been our normal selves.
"We need to find the good things we were doing before and bring them back because this hurts a lot and it's really unacceptable what we did in that second half.
"We showed no personality and no mentality. For a big team to come here, we need to do better."
The defeat to Liverpool marks Man United's sixth loss of the league campaign as they remain in third place.
They return to action on Thursday when they face Real Betis in the Europa League before resuming their league campaign against Southampton on Sunday.
