Liverpool legend Gerrard reveals key difference between Torres and Suarez

Steven Gerrard has revealed the difference between Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres' attitudes towards taking penalties.

Gerrard was lucky enough to share the pitch with a series of elite strikers during his illustrious career. Whilst many of those would claim they were lucky enough to play alongside the former Reds skipper.

Torres spent three and a half seasons at Anfield between 2007-2011. During that time he scored 65 league goals in 102 appearances.

Meanwhile Suarez, who arrived shortly after the Spaniard's departure to Chelsea, scored 82 goals in 133 appearances before joining La Liga giants Barcelona in 2014.

The Suarez vs Torres debate has been heard in every corner of Merseyside, but whilst both players shared an undeniable knack for goals, Gerrard has outlined the main difference between them.

Speaking to Mohamed Salah on Liverpool's latest documentary, 'When StevieMmet Salah', Gerrard explained the pair's opposing attitudes towards penalties.

"I know how centre forwards work, said Gerard. "I've had close relationships with Owen, Fowler, Torres, Suarez. They want to be the top striker in the league, so if you take penalties it gives you a bigger chance.

"Torres didn't like to take them [penalties] because he had some bad experiences at his previous clubs so he never really wanted to take them.

"Whereas Suarez, I knew whenever I used to take them Suarez's head would be messed [up] and it would work because he would work even harder to score in open play."

Salah recently became Liverpool's all-time Premier League top scorer with his second goal during the Reds' 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United. The Egyptian now has 129 top-flight goals, moving him ahead of Robbie Fowler.

The win leaves Jurgen Klopp's side just three points adrift of the Champions League places, with a game in hand over Tottenham above them.

Liverpool travel to Bournemouth on Saturday where they will be hoping for a repeat of the reverse fixture in which they came away comprehensive 9-0 winners. Incredibly, Salah didn't even get one!
