'I've got an important role on and off the field': Maguire explains United situation after Real Betis heroics
Speaking about the win over Real Betis in the Europa League Round of 16, Harry Maguire told BT Sport: “We performed well at Old Trafford, and we knew coming here that in the first 20 minutes, they would throw everything at it.
“If we saw that through it would be an important part of the game to progress in. We knew it would be fast, we expected a fast start from them [Betis] we knew that if we didn't concede in the first 20 minutes of the game then that would be a big part of the game well done
“We conceded a few chances, a bit sloppy with the ball, which they capitalised on but we had chances ourselves as well, it could've been a couple of goals each in the first 20 minutes.”
He also spoke about his role at United amid the lack of regular minutes this season, adding: “I’ve an important role on and off the field at this club. Every day I try to make this club succeed, whether I’m playing or not. That’s my main focus at the moment.
“I work hard in training, that's only what you can do! I've brought everything into training. We have good coaches at this club, they put on really good sessions for us on the days after games.
“It's not been to long since my last games. I've started 5,6 or 7 since the World Cup. Obviously I want to play and start more games, but I'm playing my part on and off the field and the most important part is the victory.”
To his credit, Maguire was really solid in the game and played a major role to help his team get a clean sheet from it. The United captain will hope to build on this to start getting more regular minutes going forward.
