'I need to start enjoying football': McTominay drops hint on future amid transfer links
McTominay has hardly featured for Manchester United this season, appearing mostly off the bench. He's lost his place to the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, Fred, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. And even when he's played, the midfielder has failed to impress.
He painted a different story with Scotland though, netting a brace in each of his two international games so far.
Scotty has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United, which could potentially materialise in the summer transfer window.
In an interview with Shields Gazette, McTominay said: "You have to set high expectations for yourself,".
"You can't just go into games hoping to do well. You must go in believing.
"I spoke to the manager [Steve Clarke] and he said, 'I don't think you're playing with a smile on your face, and I want to see the smile come back out'.
"That was the first day I arrived [with the national squad] and I thought, 'do you know what, he is right'.
"I felt the smile did need to come back on my face, and I need to start enjoying football and playing like I love it."
