Pop sensation Shakira recently opened up about her struggles after her split with longtime partner Gerard Pique in 2022, saying she ‘put up with so much crap.’

Speaking at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she talked about her song 'BZRP Music Session #53' which is said to be packed with references about her split with the former Barcelona football star.

“I've had a very rough year after my separation, and writing this song has been so important to me. It's been a healthy way to channel my emotions. And I feel that after we put out this song, I really felt that I don't even have fans out there,” she said.

“I have a sisterhood of women who have been through the same things that I have been through, who think the way I think, who feel the way I feel, who had to put up with so much crap the way I had to. And I did write the song for me, but also I feel that it was meant for so many women out there that needed a forum and a voice to represent them in so many ways,” she added.

Last week, the 46-year-old broke silence on her infamous split during an interview with En Punto con Enrique Acevedo. The singer, who shares two children with Piqué, had revealed that she was focusing on herself as the Pique moved on with his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.

“I've always been very emotionally dependent [on men] – I have to confess this. I was in love with love,” she had said, adding that she once believed that a woman needed a man to feel complete. “One way or another, I've managed to learn it from another perspective and feel that I'll be fine on my own.”

In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué had announced their separation with a joint post saying, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy.”
