Former Tottenham star Dele Alli's contract with Everton 'likely to be terminated' amid struggles at Besiktas

Former Tottenham star Dele Alli could potentially see his contract with Everton ‘terminated’ after failing to rediscover his best form at Besiktas, according to stunning reports.

Everton brought Alli to Goodison Park from Spurs last February, with the transfer fee worth up to a whopping £40m if add-ons were met.

However, Alli struggled in his first six months at Everton and failed to replicate his once-stunning Tottenham form at Goodison Park.

The Everton loanee was loaned out to Turkish side Besiktas for the 2022-23 season last August after managing only 11 appearances for the Toffees.

Alli’s loan spell at Besiktas has failed to reignite his career and the Everton midfielder has been left struggling for minutes under Besiktas manager Senol Gunes.

Gunes, who replaced Valerien Ismael as Besiktas head coach last October, has pulled no punches towards Alli and openly criticised him for his form this season.

Football Insider now reports that it is unlikely that Besiktas will trigger a permanent move for Alli, who will be shipped back to Everton after his loan spell.

Besiktas have the option to sign Alli for a transfer fee of £6.9m thanks to a permanent clause in the loan deal, but the player does not fit in Gunes’ long-term plans.

However, the outlet added that his return to Everton could be short-lived, with the Premier League club ‘likely to terminate his contract’ and ‘pay him up rather than keep him.’

Former England manager Sam Allardyce admitted he was shocked to see Alli’s rapid decline after claiming the former Three Lions star was an “outstanding talent".

“It’s a real waste of talent that. A raw, outstanding talent,” he told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

“He came on as a sub in that game I had [for England], and he turned the game in our favour to win it. There was nothing wrong with him when he got on the pitch, he was outstanding.

“You see players generally have a dip a bit younger when they breakthrough so young, but he was so established and such a big part of Tottenham’s success, if you can call it success, and then nobody expected that.

“I don’t know whose responsibility it was. As a manager, I’d have asked what’s wrong, because it had to be off the field.”
