Fans feel Wout Weghorst was disrespected in post match interview
Fans think that Wout Weghorst was disrespected following Netherlands win over Gibraltar, after the forward struggled in the game.
Weghorst's move to Manchester United on loan in January came as a shock to pretty much everyone, especially with his last stint in the Premier League seeing the striker score just two goals.
He has quickly achieved cult hero status at Old Trafford however, despite his scoring record not improving that much, due to his incredible emotional connection.
It was clear how much winning the Carabao Cup meant to him and his first goal at the Theatre of Dreams also saw him nearly in tears.
However, despite love coming from the stands at United's home ground, those who don't support Erik ten Hag's side have been much more criticial of the Dutchman.
He recently replied to claims he is the 'worst United player ever,' with Richard Keys seemingly on a constant campaign to belittle the Burnley loanee.
On Monday night, he once again came under fire, this time on international duty, with the Netherlands forward part of a side who scored just three times from 51 attempts against Gibraltar.
After the game, Weghorst was in the media zone, with one journalist asking, "Wout, imagine we would have continued this game for another 48 hours. Would you have scored a goal?"
The modest forward replied, "Good question. At least I would have had more time. I did my best, but time was up."
And fans have now hit out at the question, claiming it was 'disrespectful' and that it 'violated' the 30-year-old former Wolfsburg striker.
"Did him dirty with that question," said one fan.
"That’s a brazy question to ask someone, not going to lie," added a second.
A third questioned, "What kind of questions are these man? Embarrassing."
"Human rights violation right there," noted another supporter.
A fifth stuck up for the striker, posting, "I mean this guy is far from the typical lazy striker, Weghorst always puts 100% in and tries his best, I feel for the guy."
"Seems needlessly rude," another simply suggested.
Talking about Netherlands World Cup loss to Argentina, another replied, "That's mad disrespectful considering he scored against world champions and converted his penalty too."
Weghorst's goals, off the bench, in that quarter final game actually earned his national team extra time, after being 2-0 down with minutes to go.
It also got him into a heated conversation with Lionel Messi after the game, and he has a new nickname, thanks to Lisandro Martinez, because of it.
