Court 'overturns' decision that allowed Barca to register new Gavi contract - what it means

Following the appeal from La Liga, the same court that allowed Barcelona to register Gavi as a first-team player with a new contract has now "overturned" its decision and the lawsuit no longer has any effect, Relevo report.

The reason for it is that Barca's initial appeal arrived one day late.

Gavi can continue to play for the Catalans but will have to go back to his old salary and the no.30 shirt as he returns to his status as a Barca Atletic player.

Barca are facing problems registering Gavi's new deal because of La Liga's changed regulations.

Previously, you had to prove that the new contract fits within the salary cap for the current season. However, Javier Tebas has introduced a new law saying that, in case a club uses economic levers, it has to prove that it can afford the contracts for the next two years.

Barca are yet to officially react to this news. If Gavi is indeed back under his old contract, it will expire at the end of the season if Blaugrana do not find a way to re-register the new agreement.
