Ceballos: 'I don't want a new contract if I don't deserve it. Modric and Kroos play at the highest level'

"I just want to play football and be judged by my level on the pitch. I don't want a new contract if I don't deserve it – or go to another club if I don't deserve it either. I want to enjoy what I do," Dani Ceballos has told Jorge Valdano.

"The last three months? I want to play them, and when I'm done, to meet with my agent, my family and value what's best for me. But I don't want the best contract. I want the people, the board and the club to decide if I am good enough for them.

"Now, the most important thing is to focus on my everyday work, taking advantage of whatever game time I receive and showing people that I want to continue playing for Real Madrid.

"Modric has to be my example. I have been good for two months, but Luka and Toni [Kroos] have been at the highest level for 10 or 12 years," Dani also said.

That's class from Ceballos. He objectively judges his level and understands that there are players who have been better despite his rise in form.

The Spaniard's current deal with Real Madrid expires in the summer. There is still no guarantee that he will stay at the club beyond this season.
