Casemiro proved he's a leader with how he treated Bruno Fernandes after a tough week

Casemiro showed his incredible leadership skills with in Manchester United's 4-1 win over Real Betis - particularly when it comes to teammate Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international, who has been captain for the majority of the season, was destroyed for his performance and behaviour in the 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday.

Fernandes was criticised by fans and pundits alike for his attitude at Anfield. He produced two shambolic dives, put his hands on an official and seemingly gave up when Stefan Bajcetic skipped past him on the right side.

It was anything but a captain's performance from Fernandes, who was branded "embarrassing" and a "disgrace" by former skipper Gary Neville for his constant arm-flailing.

There had been calls for Erik ten Hag to take the captaincy off him but Fernandes kept the armband and his place in the team for the 4-1 Europa League round of 16 first leg victory over Real Betis.

The exact same side which were humiliated by Liverpool responded with a comfortable victory courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Fernandes and Wout Weghorst.

And when Fernandes headed home the third past Claudio Bravo, Casemiro, who many believe should be United's captain going forward, demonstrated his class.

Fan footage captured him animatedly signalling to the Stretford End, the most vocal section at United, to cheer even louder for Fernandes after the week he's had.

It was a brilliant gesture from the Brazilian. But the former Real Madrid midfielder also wasn't afraid to put Fernandes in his place in the game.

He was also spotted angrily lecturing Fernandes in another clip. It's not known exactly what the discussion was over and when exactly in the match it occured, but Casemiro does not shy away from giving it to his colleagues.

In fact, he did just that to Fernandes just moments after the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle, telling him off for not passing at the death.

Fernandes was booked on Thursday night for a poorly timed challenge on Bravo, though there was a feeling that he would have seen red had he connected more with his studs.
