Casemiro extends unwanted Man Utd statistic after latest red card

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has extended an unwarranted statistic at the club after being sent off against Southampton in the Premier League.

The Red Devils held on for a 0-0 draw despite Casemiro being sent off after 34 minutes in the game at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's side failed to bounce back in the league after their humiliating 7-0 away to arch rivals Liverpool but given the circumstances will be happy they kept a clean sheet and didn't lose.

The red card caused controversy after initially being given as a yellow before VAR intervened with referee Anthony Taylor changing his decision after reviewing the incident on the pitch side monitor.

At full-time Ten Hag called for consistency when it comes to refereeing decisions and said that the game was influenced by the referee.

It's Casemiro's second dismissal in three league games and makes him the only United player to be sent off in their last 52 Premier League matches.

What games will Casemiro miss?

As a result of the red card the Brazilian midfielder will be suspended for United's next four domestic games their FA Cup quarter-final tie against Fulham, trips to Newcastle and Brentford and a home game against Everton.

Whilst a player would normally miss three games because it's his second red of the season he will miss an extra fixture.

Casemiro has been crucial to United's success and will be a huge miss in all four games, particularly the quarter-final.

United have a great opportunity to add the FA Cup to their Carabao Cup and lift a second trophy in Ten Hag's first season at the club.

They're no longer considered to be in a race or the title so ensuring Champions League qualification next season and potentially lifting more silverware is the ultimate end goal.
