Camavinga included in France's squad as a defender, Deschamps explains why

France have confirmed their squad for the upcoming international break and Eduardo Camavinga's name is surprisingly included on the defenders' list.

National team coach Didier Deschamps has explained why that is.

"I have called up Camavinga to play as a left-back. Like other players, his versatility is very interesting but, on this international break and given the requirements and what he showed he could do, he tends to give me more guarantees in this position," he said.

"He won’t be surprised. I already have discussions with him, even recently, about the way we’ll use him."

Deschamps was the first to use Camavinga at left-back during the World Cup when his other players in that position suffered injuries.

Carlo Ancelotti has also used Camavinga at left-back on several occasions. The Real Madrid youngster prefers playing in midfield but doesn't mind helping the team if needed.
