The Toffees splashed out £35million to bring the 21-year-old defensive midfielder to Goodison Park from Lille.

And he has been one of Everton‘s shining lights in an otherwise disappointing season with the Merseyside outfit sitting in 18th spot.

His fine form in the first half of the campaign saw him called up by Belgium for their World Cup squad in Qatar.

He also drew interest from London giants Chelsea and Arsenal in January, but Onana shunned a Goodison Park exit to help Everton out in their fight against relegation.

However the youngster has failed to rule out a move in the near future during an interview with SoFoot.

Asked where he sees himself in five years time, Onana said: “I see myself having had a lot of life experiences, which will have made me learn a lot about human beings in general, as well as about myself.

“I see myself, God willing, in one of the biggest clubs recognised worldwide.”

His comments will likely put the Gunners and the Blues on red alert as they look to strengthen their squads in the upcoming transfer window.

It has been claimed how Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in two midfielders with the table-toppers poised to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2017.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking for a new midfielder to partner Enzo Fernandez, with N’Golo Kante yet to extend his stay beyond the summer.

And Chelsea may have the upper hand in signing Onana after the player stated his experiences of playing at Stamford Bridge for Lille convinced him to play in England.

He remarked: “I remember being amazed by the public at Stamford Bridge. By the atmosphere, by the issue.

“After going through that, I made the Premier League one of my goals.

“It’s a pleasure to play in this championship, because there is never a ‘small match’.

“There are only big teams and that adds to the challenge. It’s what makes me live.”
