Viking is no Match: Comparing 22-year-old Haaland to 22-year-old Messi
Fan account FootyNews has come up with quite a creative cartoon comparison of Leo Messi and Erling Haaland at the age of 22.
While Haaland is a goalscoring machine with plenty of individual records already, Messi is still head and shoulders above the Norwegian even at 22.
Haaland's trophies:
- DFB Pokal (the German Cup)
- Champions League Man of the Match awards
- U17 World Cup Golden Shoe
Messi's trophies:
- 3 La Liga titles
- 2 Champions League trophies
- One Ballon d'Or
- U20 World Cup winner (Leo had also claimed the 2008 Olympics' gold by that time)
At a club level, Haaland has netted 148 goals and provided 37 assists in 191 games; Messi had 80 goals and 43 assists at 22, playing mostly as a second forward or a right winger which is an important mention.
And let's not forget Messi had only played at Barcelona while Haaland has spent part of his career in Norway, Austria and Germany.
Individually, both players were something else at 22, yet Haaland is still nowhere near Messi's levels all in all.
