As seen, football has taken a lot of individuals away from poverty. As we all know a lot of players came from the street those with or without background.
A lot of well-known football stars came from the street, players like Carlos Tevez, Victor Osimhen, etc.
Poverty can be a great motivator to do great even if it is heartbreaking for most football fans.
Many see the amazing talents on their screen in every match, every tournament, and competition from the best soccer leagues in the world but do not get to see the work behind the scenes. Some of the best players have undergone a tough childhood and had to work extremely hard to get to the point they are at the moment.
While this is the case, some might not be willing to share with the public their harsh upbringing, while some proclaim it to motivate any child that might be of the same caliber.
Here are some football/ soccer players who went from nothing to something:
11. Victor Osimhen
For starters of, his Biography, his full names are Victor James Osimhen. Victor Osimhen, as he is often called, was born on the 29th day of December 1998 to his late mother and his father, Elder Patrick Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker was born in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. Victor came to the world as the last of six children born to his lovely parents.
Like many notable footballers in Southern Nigeria, Victor Osimhen came from a poor family background.
Before he was born, his parents made the decision to relocate to the city of “Lagos” the economic capital of Nigeria.
Even while at Lagos, the family faced hardship, one which was so biting that little Victor, then a toddler, was made to face the scorching sun in Lagos traffic, where the mother used to sell sachet water to supplement her paltry income.
Alexis Sanchez was born on 19 December 1988 in Tocopilla, Chile. After his birth, his father left leaving him with his mother, Martina Sanchez who was a small-scale businesswoman and two other daughters. Martina had to be involved in other ventures such as washing fish and selling flowers to try to bring ends together but it was not enough for all of them.
Alexis’ uncle helped the situation by adopting little Sanchez and later on enrolled him in a local club, Arauco’s youth school. However, struggles with football fees forced Sanchez to look for a job, where he washed cars and worked in a cemetery.

Di Maria is an Argentine who currently plays as a midfielder for the Serie A club Juventus and the Argentina National team. He was born on 14 February 1988 in Rosario, Argentina to Miguel and Diana Maria. They were poverty-stricken, lacking even the basic amenities at the early stages of Di Maria’s life.
Due to his unusually good stamina and his active nature in sports, his parents enrolled him at a local football club when he was four. Living together with his sisters, Di Maria could not be bought shoes and a football to practice as his sisters would be deprived. However, after practice, he made it a habit to go work with his father at a local coal yard where he would earn additional money.
8. Dani Alves
Dani Alves was born on 6 May 1983 in Juazeiro, Brazil to his father Domingos and mother Dona Lucia. His mother was a housewife while his father was a farmer whom he worked with. He would wake up at 4 am to follow his father to the fields, 30 kilometres away and would help him tirelessly with no rest.
However, the fields of Salitre had a recurring issue of wet and dry seasons, a situation that made agriculture a difficult way to earn a living. He however found time to play football with children in the nearby fields, which led him to achieve his biggest dream of becoming a professional football player and one of the greatest right-backs in football history.

Nicknamed ‘Lucky Luka’, Modric was born on 9 September 1985 in Zadr, Croatia to his mom Radojka and dad Stripe Modric. His mother was a textile worker while his father was a military mechanic who repaired cars for Croatian soldiers at war. The family, however, were refugees who fled from Serbian aggressors during the Bosnia war. This made them work with very low income and an uncomfortable living environment.
During his childhood, he was looked at as too small-bodied to play football professionally. However, his zeal, determination, hard work and most importantly love for the game made him change the narrative and went on to be the Croatian captain and one of the best players in the world.

1. Diego Armando Maradona
Popularly referred to as the greatest footballer in history, Maradona was born in Villa Fioriotio, on 30 October 1961. They lived in the harsh slums of Villa Fiorito outside Buenos Aires, but Maradona would still envision himself as a great football player. His father Don Diego struggled as a bricklayer and factory worker to sustain seven kids and a stay-at-home wife.
Maradona still pushed his craft on the field and managed to sign his first professional contract at 15 years old and supported his family thereafter. He had a successful career and at 21, he joined Barcelona at a world-record fee. Maradona died in November 2020 at the age of 60 due to cardiac arrest.
