Manchester City fans think their Champions League 'curse' is finally over after Yaya Toure's recent interview

Manchester City fans believe their Champions League 'curse' is finally broken after hearing Yaya Toure's recent interview.

Despite spending a ridiculous amount of money on transfers over the past 15 years or so, the Citizens are still yet to lift club football's biggest trophy.

City have won the Premier League on numerous occasions, while FA Cups and League Cups have also come their way of late.

But when it comes to the Champions League, it's been nothing but heartbreak - especially during Toure's time at the club.

The furthest City have got in the illustrious competition is the 2021 final, where they lost 1-0 to Chelsea.

So, is 2023 finally going to be the year for Pep Guardiola's side? Well, fans have reason to be even more optimistic than usual after hearing Toure's aforementioned interview.

The Ivorian legend has clearly stated that he wants his former club to win the competition this year, despite the fact he currently works for Tottenham Hotspur - who're yet to be eliminated themselves.

Now, you may be asking, why's that such a big deal? Well, back in 2018, Toure's agent Dimitriy Seluk declared that an African 'curse' had been put on Guardiola after his client's departure.

Man City's Toure curse

“This will be for Guardiola an African curse," Seluk said. "Life will show whether I am right or not.

“The fact that Guardiola ended Yaya’s career in Manchester City is not even a mistake, but a crime.”

Since then, City have endured nothing but pain in the Champions League, but perhaps not for much longer.
