Liverpool 2-5 Madrid: Vinicius 10, Nacho 8: Madrid player ratings in Anfield triumph
The Whites defeated Liverpool away at Anfield 5-2, staging an incredible comeback from 2-0 down.
Vinicius: 10/10. Inspired one of the greatest comebacks the game has seen. Scored a sensational goal to put Madrid back into the game, equalised after putting Alisson under pressure and forcing a mistake from the goalie. The kind of performance that separates legends and world-class players from simply good ones.
Modric: 9. What a guy. 37 years old and he's doing this, embarrassing one of the most high-intensity teams in the world in their own home. An assist for Militao's goal, a key role in Benzema's second and overall an excellent performance as he was at heart of almost every Madrid attack today.
Camavinga: 9. Was very shaky on the ball in the first 15 minutes but picked himself up and had a Rolls-Royce performance after that. Won the ball back a lot of times and sprayed passes forward in a peak Toni Kroos fashion. Crucial in Madrid winning the midfield battle.
Benzema: 8. Scored two goals — the first was maybe a lucky one but the second is pure class, the way he dealt with Liverpool's defenders and Alisson. Extremely helpful in the build-up, often dropped deep or drifted wide, creating space for Vinicius and Rodrygo to invade into.
Nacho: 8. Leaves Anfield with Mo Salah in his pocket. The Egyptian ghosted out of the game after Nacho was brought on for the injured Alaba. Coincidence? I don't think so!
Valverde: 7.5. The best Uruguayan on the pitch today despite all the stunning backheels from Nunez. Returned to the midfield position and did well, helping Modric and Camavinga with pace and physicality to deal with their Liverpool counterparts.
Militao: 7. Very poor defending for Liverpool's opener as he stood like a statue waiting for Darwin to run away and score. Vindicated himself with an excellent header that put Madrid 3-2 up; was solid against Nunez and Gakpo in the second half.
Courtois: 4. Not the best game to put it mildly as he gifted the second goal to Liverpool but so what as teammates bailed him out with a brilliant win.
Carvajal: 3. Very very shaky today. Didn't really help Militao to deal with Nunez in the opposition's first goal, played a risky pass to Courtois for the second. Could have conceded a penalty for a push on Darwin in the second half, just before Militao's goal.
