Koeman: 'I don't understand why Dest left, he isn't worse than Roberto'
In his interview with Andry van der Meide on Youtube, Ronald Koeman talked about Sergino Dest's spell at Barcelona.
"He could've moved from Ajax to Bayern Munich back then. We needed a right-back at Barca at the time and I found the ideal solution in Dest," the coach said.
"I never understood why Dest had to leave Barcelona. I've read that Hector Bellerin also had to leave. But I really don't think Dest is any worse than Sergi Roberto. He's a young player and he did well at the World Cup. I've never understood why he doesn't play more."
Dest is currently on loan at AC Milan after Xavi decided that the right-back wasn't good enough for Barca due to his poor defending. The American isn't doing too well in Italy as he's recently been excluded from Milan's squad for the Champions League knockouts.
Sergino could return to Camp Nou next summer if the Rossoneri don't trigger their buy option. However, it appears that Dest doesn't have a future at Barca as the club is looking to extend Roberto's contract.
