Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool fans to 'book the hotel' for this season's Champions League final back in May
Jurgen Klopp's comments at the end of last season's Champions League final have re-emerged following a 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid.
The Reds were dismantled at Anfield on Tuesday evening after initially going 2-0 up inside 14 minutes thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.
Nunez flicked home his 11th goal of the season while Salah capitalised on an error from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to become Liverpool's all-time top European goalscorer.
Vinicius Jr. managed to score twice in the first half, with the second coming from an Alisson pass gone wrong, to ensure the away side went in level at the break.
Eder Militao's header early in the second half put Madrid ahead and they didn't look back. Liverpool's backline crumbled as Karim Benzema added a brace of his own to take a three-goal lead back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
It's the second time in nine months Liverpool have been beaten by the Spanish giants. Carlo Ancelotti's side won the Champions League final against Liverpool last season thanks to Vinicius Jr.'s strike in the second half.
Liverpool didn't have enough to overcome a Madrid side who completed several comebacks to make the showpiece event in Paris.
Klopp spoke to BT Sport at full-time and reflected on his team's performance. Liverpool were challenging on all fronts last term and came within two games of winning an unprecedented quadruple.
The German coach believed his team could reach this season's Champions League final, giving a strong statement of intent.
"It's not bad to get to the final - it's kind of a success although not the success you want to have," he said.
"I have a strong feeling we will come again. The boys are really competitive and are an outstanding group - they will be that again next season. And we go again. Where's it next season? Istanbul? Book the hotel!"
Overcoming a three goal deficit at the Bernabeu means that's unlikely. Hopefully nobody took Klopp's advice to heart.
Fans online have reacted to the comments and were quick to mock Klopp.
One person said: "Maybe he wanted to watch the game with his family?"
A second commented: "Nah he's not that guy."
Someone tweeted: "Book the hotel for Don Carlo, not yourself."
While a fourth added: "Just watch it on TV Jurgen."
