'It's just baffling': Jamie Carragher shocked by gaping hole in Chelsea squad despite £600m spending

Speaking on CBS Sports last week, Jamie Carragher said: "When you think of the money Chelsea spent in the January transfer window, in the summer as well, and to think you're playing a full season without a recognised, top-quality centre forward, it's just baffling.

"You think, 'It's £600 million being spent and you don't have someone at the top end of the pitch who can score a goal'. Chelsea's massive problem this season has been scoring goals. I think they've scored just more than maybe one goal a game in the Premier League.

"That's nowhere near enough for a club the size of Chelsea. Considering Chelsea have spent £600 million and they don't have a centre-forward is just crazy and that game summed it up. They need someone who can put the ball into the back of the net."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the only dedicated no.9 at Chelsea, is being frozen out of the team by Graham Potter with the manager leaving the striker out the Champions League squad.

The Blues' issue of scoring goals was laid bare at the weekend with Potter's side suffering a disappointing 1–0 defeat against manager-less Southampton at home in the Premier League.
