'It was a super start...and then they scored': Klopp dissects what went wrong in Real Madrid thrashing

Speaking to BeIn Sports about Liverpool's 5-2 loss to Real Madrid, Jurgen Klopp said: “It was a super start - we had everything we wanted - being 2-0 up - feeling great - the atmosphere was outstanding - then they scored.

“We should have defended it earlier and better. Definitely better. The second goal for them was a slapstick goal - we have to accept it but I still felt really good after the first half.

“I am really not sure if their third goal was a foul but even then, we had to defend the free-kick better. That was a real knock.

“We lost too many balls in the wrong moments - I couldn't remember one pass to Darwin behind the lines in the second half.

“We couldn't continue the momentum. We played completely into their hands. We still want to win the game in Madrid.”

Klopp refuses to single out any particular player from the loss, even though they were a number of poor performers. He’ll need to conjure up something really special to get his side motivated again and have a chance of making a comeback in the second leg.
