'If I'd have played, Kaka wouldn't have existed!': Peter Crouch makes hilarious 2007 Champions League final claim
Former Liverpool forward Peter Crouch and his wife, model Abbey Clancy had an argument about kids and football in the striker's life on their show The Therapy Crouch.
During the conversation, Clancy read out a headline from last year: "Peter Crouch says getting to the Champions League final was better than the birth of his kids."
The couple, married in 2011, share four children.
"You only came on as a sub - you weren't even a real player, you weren't even involved. How can you even say that?" Clancy asked.
Crouch tried to defend himself: "I was Liverpool’s top goalscorer on the run up to that final, level with Kaka. If I’d have played in the final we might have won it and I might have become top goalscorer – Kaka wouldn’t have existed!"
"But you didn't and you didn't play so there you go," Clancy replied.
Crouch made the comments about the kids last year. He said at that time: "Look, I love my two girls and my two boys but I have to be honest. Getting to the Champions League final is better.
"Sure, it’s wonderful when they [babies] arrive, and they’re healthy and all is well with your partner. But there’s no sudden shock. There’s no explosion of noise all around you.
"You don’t feel like taking your top off and running round the hospital, and if you did, and launched into a massive knee-slide, it wouldn’t be to a sea of limbs like when I scored for Spurs against Manchester City to get us into Europe.
"It would just be a tired night porter and someone bringing in a Lucozade for their poorly nan."
Crouch scored seven goals in the Champions League in the 2006-07 season as Liverpool reached the final of the competition. He started the showdown against Milan in Athens on the bench and came on with twelve minutes to go. The Reds lost the game 2-1 as Filippo Inzaghi scored a brace.
In December that year, Kaka won the Ballon d'Or for his contributions to Milan's triumph.
