Dortmund 1- Chelsea: Felix – 7.5, Havertz – 4: rating Chelsea players in Borussia Dortmund loss

Again the best thing about Chelsea’s attack. Tormented Dortmund with his clever dribbling and set up a lot of good chances for teammates. Tested the goalkeeper throughout the match. Yes, he missed an easy chance, but who didn't on the day? Unlucky not to score in the first half – seeing a shot hit the bar.

Thiago Silva – 7.5

The Chelsea captain denied Dortmund a lot of chances to score with his key challenges. Booked for a silly handball goal in the first half, but very solid apart from that – making 4 clearances, 5 possession recoveries and winning 2/2 aerial duels.

Kalidou Koulibaly – 7

Koulibaly had a solid return to action for Chelsea and was really proactive all game long. Made 4 clearances, 2 blocks and won 3/4 aerial duels – as well as coming close to scoring with a stinging effort in the second half.

Hakim ZIyech – 5

Ziyech created a few nice chances with his delivery, but his final product was frustrating too. Took a few weak shots on goal and wasted some decent chances, leaving fans annoyed.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 4.5

Despite tormenting the defenders with some blazing forward runs, Mudryk’s final product was poor. He got into some great positions but just couldn’t set up anything big. Taken off in the second half.

Kai Havetz – 4

He made a few decent passes into the final third, but Havertz still wasn’t able to operate like a quality centre-forward. Bullied by the Dortmund defenders and failed to really test the goalkeeper.

The Others

Kepa – 5, James – 7, Chilwell – 7, Enzo – 6, Loftus-Cheek – 4.5,

Subs

Mount – 5, Cucurella – 5
