"Crazy": Neymar’s immediate reaction to Pavard's 'horrible', ‘career-ending’ tackle on Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain’s 2023 goes from bad to worse as they suffered defeat in their first leg tie in the Champions League round of 16, facing an uphill battle to turn things around in the second leg, away to Bayern Munich.

It was former PSG star Kingsley Coman who scored the only goal of the game early in the second half with a first-time volley that probably should have been saved, but he won’t care as he apologised to his former fans for his strike.

There may have been a lifeline for the French giants as Benjamin Pavard saw red in stoppage time after a ‘career-ending’ challenge on the unanimous greatest footballer of all time, Lionel Messi. As you can imagine, not everyone was thrilled with the Argentine being crunched.

There may have been a lifeline for the French giants as Benjamin Pavard saw red in stoppage time after a ‘career-ending’ challenge on the unanimous greatest footballer of all time, Lionel Messi. As you can imagine, not everyone was thrilled with the Argentine being crunched.

talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair was fuming with the challenge when reporting on the game, claiming: “Horrible tackle, I’ve got to be honest. It’s reckless, it’s out of control.

“He might just get something over the top of the ball but he completely takes out Messi. That could break your left leg, that’s the challenge you don’t want to see in the game. I’m just looking at Messi there, I mean if he carries on and he’s fine in the next game, I’ll be astounded.

“I feel that was almost an amber challenge, touching on red because it was so out of control and reckless. They are the kind of challenges that we don’t want to see in the game because they end careers, they end seasons.”

Sinclair wasn’t the only one baffled and left with a sour taste after the challenge, but Messi’s teammate and long-term friend from their Barcelona days, Neymar, was also quick to show how he felt at the challenge.

Videos show Neymar going to Pavard, appearing to call him crazy whilst pointing to his head, not hiding from what he thought about the challenge, with the French defender now missing from the second leg of the tie.
