Chelsea hire rugby coach to instill winning culture in the team

The Telegraph report that Chelsea have hired former New Zealand national rugby team' 'manager for leadership' Gilbert Enoka. He will take up a short-term consultancy role at the Bridge with an aim to create a winning culture at the club.

Enoka is famous in rugby for his 'no d***heads' approach that led to New Zealand's consecutive World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015. The team was previously known for crumbling under pressure but Enoka helped turn them into serial winners.

It's unclear what exactly what Enoka's responsibilities at Chelsea would be. But here are some of his quotes about his approach to coaching leadership.

[Dickheads are the] "people putting themselves ahead of the team, people who think they're entitled to things or expect the rules to be different for them, people operating deceitfully in the dark, or being unnecessarily loud about their work," Enoka is quoted by The Telegraph.

"Our coach Steve Hansen, a brilliant man, once came into a team meeting a few minutes late. As he walked in, one of the senior players stood up and said, 'Coach, you can't be late. Not again, please.' So it's actually the team monitoring this behaviour.

"A d---head makes everything about them. Often teams put up with it because a player has so much talent. We look for early warning signs and wean the big egos out pretty quickly. Our motto is, if you can't change the people, change the people."
