Chelsea employee opens up on how Potter deals with abuse from Blues fans

Chelsea's disappointing defeat to bottom-placed Southampton last week was followed by a public outcry from the Blues faithful who dragged the team and manager under the bus for their lacklustre display. Head coach Graham Potter faced the most criticism and abuse from fans over the team's poor form.

The Athletic caught up with a Chelsea employee to find out how Potter was dealing with the abuse and relentless criticism coming his away. Apparently, the English manager is taking it well.

“Potter is affable, approachable,” the unnamed employee tells The Athletic.

“Not like a bear with a sore head. There are no barriers. He is obviously taking some of the personal abuse hard but I like how objective he is.

"Potter doesn’t cause any problems like other managers have in the past — he’s very down-to-earth, humble, intelligent, courteous," the employee said.

He also claimed Chelsea players are being positive about the current situation with the club.

“I’ve not sensed any negativity among the players, or vitriol. It feels more like ‘things are going wrong, we need to fix it’.

"It doesn’t feel like hatred or disillusionment. Walking around the corridors at Cobham, you don’t feel any tension or nastiness. Everyone is just getting on with it.”

Chelsea have won just two games in their last 14 games in all competitions. It's the sort of form you'll see with a relegation-threatened club.
