Arsenal handed Partey boost ahead of Leicester clash
According to the Evening Standard, Thomas Partey will push to return for the trip to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon, but Arsenal medical staff will not rush his recovery.
The Ghanaian missed the Gunners’ games against Manchester City and Aston Villa but has been earmarked to feature against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Partey was missing from training on Monday but Arsenal are confident he will be fit for Saturday’s game after a thigh injury.
Jorginho has deputised for the 29-year-old and it was his effort that led to Emi Martinez’s own-goal in Saturday’s dramatic 4-2 win at Villa Park.
His excellent form since arriving from Chelsea has eased the pressure on Partey’s return and provided Arsenal with adequate cover.
The Italian could keep his place for the visit to the King Power Stadium even in the event of Partey’s return to the squad.
His return provides a huge boost for Mikel Arteta’s side who hold a two-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.
The Gunners also have a game in hand – at home to Everton next Wednesday – and can ill-afford a slip up against the Foxes this weekend.
