Youngest player ever to play for Liverpool can't find a club at 26, now sells fried chicken
Despite being 16 years 05 months 21 days on his debut Harvey Elliott is not the youngest player to play for the Liverpool senior team. That title belongs to a certain Jerome Sinclair.
Back in 2012, Sinclair made his Liverpool debut in a League Cup game against West Brom. He was just 16 years and 6 days old on the day. The Englishman described his nine-minute cameo in that 2-1 win as "a dream come true."
Fast forward to 2023, Sinclair is now 26, but he's gone six months without a finding club since his contract with Watford ended in July 2022.
As a striker, Sinclair played five games for Liverpool and registered one goal in an FA Cup game against Exeter City under Jurgen Klopp in 2015.
He was eventually shipped to Watford at the end of the 2015/16 season and his career spiralled downhill from there. He started just five games in five years at Watford and made only 14 appearances scoring one goal.
After playing for seven different clubs including teams in Holland and Russia, Sinclair's playing career has gone full circle even before he clocked the age of 30. His career goal tally stands at 30 in 156 games.
Today, Sinclair is in the business of selling fried chicken in Birmingham, after buying a franchise with Morley’s – a chain of fried-chicken takeaways.
It remains unclear if Sinclair will ever return to playing football again.
According to the Athletic, Sinclair's failure in the game after such a bright start is down to injuries, poor decisions, bad advice, misfortune and the impact of some demoralising setbacks.
