'We have the academy if need be': Xavi says Memphis replacement not a must
With Memphis Depay having completed his move to Atletico Madrid, Xavi was asked whether Barcelona will opt for a replacement in January.
"We'll see, it depends entirely on fair play. It's better if we can strengthen ourselves, but if not, I have already said that I am happy with the team I have," the coach said.
"I haven't asked for to be signed in the winter market because it [Memphis's departure] was the best thing for all parties. We have the academy if need be. It is difficult to improve the squad, more so in the January market."
Barca had been linked with Goncalo Guedes, Yannick Carrasco, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but these options have been ruled out for various reasons. No new links have emerged as of late.
So far, Angel Alarcon seems to be Xavi's chosen one to replace Memphis. The 18-year-old made his debut against Ceuta and has also been called up for the game against Getafe.
