Todd Boehly Backing Potter Just How Roman Abramovich backed his first Chelsea coach
Roman Abramovich's takeover of Chelsea in 2003 was a major turning point in the club's history as his investment over the next two decades would make the Blues one of the biggest teams in world football.
When he took over the club, Claudio Ranieri was the manager. The Italian could not win the league for Chelsea during his 4-year stint but his final year saw backing from the new owner, that was unlike anything he had had before.
Chelsea finished second which was a major step forward (Arsenal won the league without a single defeat) but Roman's ambitions were higher than that, so Jose Mourinho shortly took over.
Here's a graphic showing how much of an investment Ranieri had in his team before and after Abramovich.
Ranieri spoke about Abramovich's influence on the club over the years during a discussion on Sky Sports some years ago:
Meanwhile Todd Boehly splashed £419.4m / $511m to acquired 15 players since his takeover following almost in the same footstep as Russian billionaire Romna Abrahmovic.
